4th of July in Newport Beach

Lots of activities are happening on the Fourth of July!

Just up PCH from the Newport Channel Inn, the 108th annual Huntington Beach 4th of July Parade will have over 35,000 people lining the Main Street parade route from 10 a.m. to noon.  Grand Marshal of the parade is Patrick Warburton from the CBS TV series “Rules of Engagement”.   The Pier Plaza Festival will continue from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. when the grand finale “Fireworks over the Ocean” will light up the sky at the pier.

American Legion’s patriotically decorated “Old Glory Boat Parade” will cruise Newport Harbor at 1 p.m.

An event for families, the West Newport “Bike & Dog Parade” begins at 9 a.m. at the 38th Street Park on the Newport Peninsula and ends at the 44th Street Channel Place Park, with a festival to follow until 11:30 a.m.  There will be arts and crafts, carnival games, giant slides, and bouncers for the kids.

The Newport Beach “Independence Day on the Bay” celebration at the Newport Dunes Park, with the “The Bangles” as the headliner band, will begin with the park gates opening at 7 a.m.  The Beer Gardens open at 11 a.m. and the bands start playing at 11:15 and continue all day with The Bangles on stage at 7:15 p.m.  Admission to the concert area is $20 per person for walk-ins.  Parking is $60 per car and includes free admission for all occupants to the concert area.  If you plan to park, get there early to snag a parking place!  The Dunes Park celebration continues on July 5th when the Beer Gardens open at 3 p.m. with tribute bands performing at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., and a food truck competition throughout the afternoon.

A squadron of United States Marine helicopters is scheduled to perform a flyover along the coast.  Keep an eye to the sky around 7 p.m.!

The Newport Beach Star-Spangled “Fireworks over the Bay” at the Newport Dunes Park begins at 9:00 p.m.  Walk-in admission to the Dunes Park to enjoy the fireworks is free.

Cars Land is now open!

You will feel like you just walked into the Disney Pixar “Cars” movie when you walk down the main street of “Radiator Springs” as you enter the new “Cars Land” area of the Disney California Adventure Park.  Try and see it after dark when all the neon is ablaze!  There are several new rides and lots of shops and restaurants.  “Luigi’s Flying Tires” will remind long-time Disneyland visitors of Tomorrowland’s long-gone Flying Saucer ride as you float along on a cushion of air, bumping into all the other tires.  By far, the star new ride is “Radiator Springs Racers” which is set amid amazingly detailed southwestern mountain scenery, and takes you on a bit of a “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride” before pulling into Luigi’s for a new set of tires or into Ramone’s for a new paint job (It changes every time you ride!  You need to go on it multiple times to try all the versions.), before a fast, ride-ending race with another car.  This ride is pure Disney magic, zippy enough for those that want that but not beyond the enjoyment of the entire family, and is truly a triumph for the Disney Imagineers!

As a Guest staying at the Newport Channel Inn, you can save from $7 to $27 per ticket off the Disney ticket window price by buying your tickets at the Newport Channel Inn’s front desk!  Newport Channel Inn has a supply of 1-day 1-park tickets, 1-day park hopper tickets, and 2-day park hopper tickets for sale at last year’s prices!  When we run out we can’t get more so put in your ticket order when you make your room reservation directly with us and we will set them aside for your arrival.

Newport Channel Inn reservations may be made at our website www.newportchannelinn.com and by telephone to 949 642-3030.
